Witness Pro Remote Access Requirements

In order to remotely view your Witness XP Pro Digital Surveillance systems, you will need to follow the steps below:

1.) Decide on the method of connection

  • Modem (Standard Phone Lines) Requires dedicated phone line at the recorder location and non-dedicated phone line at the remote location.
  • LAN/DSL/Cable or other high speed connection requires Network/Internet connection, IP Address (Static not needed).

2.) For Modem to Modem connection, plug your phone line into the Line port on your Witness DVR. On your remote computer, install Access Runtime and Remote Access Software from your Witness Pro CD or you can Download a copy.

3.) For remote access from LAN/DSL/Cable or other high speed internet connection, follow the steps below:

  • Install Anti-virus software
  • If using a router, (Linksys router recommended) assign your Witness recorder a static internal IP address (example In the router set-up, place the internal IP address in the DMZ or port forward ports 80, 1001,1501 and 1901 to your internal static address.
  • If using a Dynamic public IP address, we recommend that you sign-up and install DNS software. We recommend no-ip which can be found at This is a free service, or you can sign-up for fee based services if you prefer.
  • If you are using firewall software, allow Witness Pro to access the internet.
  • On you remote computer, install remote access software for LAN/DSL/Cable from your Witness Pro CD, or download a copy of the software, or you can simply use Internet Explorer and enter your IP or no-ip domain name in the browser (example: For other networking questions, please refer to the Witness Pro manual or contact us by email at or by phone at 866-IBT-VID1.
